Divided Berlin.

Just after World War II ended, a new conflict began: the Cold War. Berlin sat right at its center, split into a western and an eastern half, a place where spies changed sides and two superpowers played out their rivalry face to face.

This Divided Berlin tour follows Harald Jäger, a young East German, through the story of the socialist state — from the divide to reunification. We start at Potsdamer Platz, once the meeting point between East and West, where sections of the old border and a guard tower still stand. At Platz des 17. Juni, you'll hear how the failed 1953 uprising turned Jäger into a committed communist, and what happened when the Wall went up overnight around Checkpoint Charlie in 1961.

From there we pass the "ghost stations" that sat sealed off during the division, stop at the Palace of Tears exhibition, and end at the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Straße, where you'll learn about escape tunnels dug under the border and how the Stasi, East Germany's feared secret police, kept watch over its own citizens.

We'll also walk the streets where the Monday Demonstrations brought the regime to its knees, and find out exactly what role Harald Jäger played on the night the Wall fell — 9 November 1989.
